How are you connected to the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion (CSDI)?
I am an Edge Leader for OMED: Educational Services. I mentor and lead students during their first year at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
What advice would you give to students on succeeding academically at Georgia Tech?
To succeed academically at this prestigious school, students should find the effort to know their classmates and professors. This involves joining study groups and attending professor’s office hours when needed.
What advice would you give to students on acclimating socially to Georgia Tech?
Students should join clubs, attend school sporting events such as Georgia Tech basketball games, and play free games with their friends at the Tech Rec.
Where have you worked while at Georgia Tech, and what did you enjoy about that experience?
I work as an Edge Leader, and I love talking to my mentees every week and listening to the enjoyable and stressful events going on through their undergraduate life. I also enjoy watching my mentees grow and improve personally and professionally as they start to become independent college students. My experience working as an Edge Leader not only builds a close connection with first-year students, but also establishes a tight relationship with all the other leaders in the Georgia Tech community.
What has been your favorite Georgia Tech experience?
My favorite Georgia Tech experience has been homecoming week. I enjoyed meeting alumni and attending all the events throughout the week such as the homecoming concert and football tailgates.
What are you involved with on campus, and why?
I am involved with the Transfer Student Association and Transfer Recruitment Team. I am involved with these two organizations because transfer students do not get the same resources that freshmen get when they come to Georgia Tech. I joined so transfer students have someone to ask their “dumb” questions to and for them to feel comfortable during their first year on campus.
I am also involved with the Women in Engineering mentoring program. I wanted to be a part of this program because I love guiding people through life and supporting people through whatever they are going through.
What has been your study abroad experience while at Georgia Tech?
I have not study abroad; however, in fall 2018, I plan to teach math, science, or literature at a college preparatory high school in the Dominican Republic.
